Chronic Pain
I work with those in chronic pain using a movement-based approach, while appreciating the multifactorial nature of pain.
Pain, especially chronic pain, is a complex and oftentimes confusing experience. It can be unpredictable, debilitating, and the uncertainty around why we hurt can be extremely frustrating. Whenever we are in pain, we want to know what is wrong, how long it will last, and what we can do about it.
There are many factors that can contribute to symptoms and making sense of the combination of influences can be overwhelming and daunting. Why can I lift something a hundred times and be fine, but then that one time caused extreme pain?
Ty and I worked together to avoid shoulder surgery:
We need an approach that can take these factors into account, organize them, and produce a customized plan for recovery.
Our current understanding of chronic pain is that it has less to do with damage to our tissues and is more a product of our brain’s inability to predict the level of safety and control associated with certain movements and positions.
A good rehabilitation program considers all of these factors and works to desensitize the painful area while also integrating new movement and building the capacity for stress.
Conditions treated:
Low back pain
Neck pain
Nerve pain
Joint and muscle pain/tightness
Migraine
Plantar fasciitis and other foot dysfunction
Sacroiliac (SI) joint issues
Fibromyalgia

What should I expect during a visit?
We begin by reviewing your relevant medical history and then perform a detailed movement and neurological exam. Based on the results of the exam, we apply treatment strategies that address the most likely causes of pain.
The strategy will be a combination of the following modalities based on your needs:
Rehabilitative movement and exercise
Acupuncture and dry needling
Manual therapy
Visual and balance training
Somatic Therapy
We go through a detailed assessment process to identify what methodologies are best suited for you.
For online consults, we perform movement assessment via video call followed by instruction on how to perform the plan for care. Click here for more information on remote consults.
Perhaps you have had disappointing results with insurance-driven medical models which minimize practitioner interaction time, discourage detailed investigation, and reward quantity over quality.
