The Approach

I work with those recovering from chronic pain, neurological conditions, and stress-related illness using a body and movement-based approach.

Our work together is to find what combination of approaches make the most sense for you and your specific needs. The process will look different depending on the nature of what we are working on.

Looking at the diagram, you can see the different ways in which these categories of symptoms overlap. The conditions listed are not exhaustive by any means, and many conditions will share more than one overlap, but this is a window into how I organize treatment.

Different techniques create change in different areas of physiology and psychology, and recognizing the underlying similarities between them helps us stack positive effects.

We go through a detailed assessment process to identify what methodologies are best suited for you.

For someone with chronic pain,

we begin by reviewing your relevant history and then perform a detailed movement and neurological exam. Based on the results of the exam, we apply treatment strategies that address the most likely causes of pain. The approaches could include acupuncture and dry needling, manual therapy, visual and balance training, and other forms of rehabilitative exercise.

For someone looking to manage anxiety, chronic or post-traumatic stress,

we investigate the physical and psychological patterns that create the experience and look to defuse the underpinning structure. Acupuncture is a great adjunct to Somatic Therapy and Self-Regulation; as they work together to facilitate a reorganization of the physical and psychological symptoms.

Perhaps you have had disappointing results with insurance-driven medical models which minimize practitioner interaction time, discourage detailed investigation, and reward quantity over quality. In our work together, each appointment includes 60 minutes of face-to-face interaction as we create a treatment strategy that matches your needs.

What should I expect for my first visit?

When you schedule your first visit, you'll be sent an email with the clinic's welcome letter, the new patient health history form, health privacy policy, and consent forms. These can all be completed and submitted online, and it is helpful to complete these forms prior to the first visit so we can maximize our time together.

Please bring any information about your case that you may have received from your other doctors such as X-rays, lab test, blood work, MRI's, etc. It's also a good idea to write down questions you may have ahead of time so that you don't forget anything you'd like to address or ask.

Once you arrive, we will review your health history, get a picture of your current problem, and craft a treatment strategy to address your needs. Please wear loose-fitting clothing that allows access above the elbow and knee as well as abdomen.
